Cheat Sheet – Amazonite

The Cheat Sheet blog posts will be a new feature on UYJ. Each post will feature a new stone and brief description. If there are pieces in my portfolio which include these stones, they will be featured as well.

Let’s learn together!

By far, Amazonite is my favourite stone. I love the colour! Anything with lovely hues of turquoise will definitely catch my eye.

  • It is said that Amazonite is named after the Amazon River. I cannot confirm that traces of Amazonite where found there. Sources are mixed regarding this point.
  • Amazon stone is another name.
  • Amazonite is greenish-blue in colour. Sometimes has white, yellow, brown or grey portions.
  • Said to be calming and encourages confidence.
  • Is found worldwide. However, large deposits are said to exist in Colorado, USA; Myanmar, India and Madagascar.

Below are example of pieces by Uniquely Yours Jewelry using Amazonite stones.

A few of my favourite things

“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,
Brown paper packages tied up with strings,
These are a few of my favorite things.”

I am sure you know this song – especially if you are 40+ years of age 🙂

However, some of my favorite things include…

BEADS!!!

Display Ideas for Handmade Jewelry

In my previous post, I shared about an upcoming event and the adrenaline rush to have everything ship-shape.

My Pinterest timeline is filled with lots of ideas and I thought to share some so you can also get your juices flowing. Where possible I have tried to link the photos back to the original sources.

Your tastes will vary to mine and depending on your area of business, the target audience and message you wish to send, you might wish to adjust the displays to suit.

So, let’s go!

This first block of photos shows some of my own display ideas. Bottles and a painted tree branch.

Mouse over the photos for caption.

Remember these are just a few! If you don’t have a Pinterest page as yet, what are you waiting for? Time to pin!

Of event prepping and display resources: Useful links and tips

Hello!!

It has been a few days since my last jewelry post. I am currently prepping for an event to be held early February 2017. I will post the flier and other details in the days to come.

I have done a few showings of my work and as much as I enjoy designing and putting together creations, preparing for an event can feel quite daunting at times.

There is so much emphasis on booth display, right ambiance and other tips which are meant to drive customers in your direction.

For this event, one which I have never done, I am feeling that pressure again. The organizers were clear that a tent would be an asset as the start time is midday. In Barbados, the midday sun can feel like suddenly the equator has descended from on high.

I have given alot of thought to the color scheme I want to use, the redesigning of business cards and logo, displays and props and the pieces I want to display.

I know!! It is so much to consider!

I found a few resources which I would like to share for those who might also struggle with pre-show jitters as I do.

  • Craft Professional – This resource is fantastic!! If you want to learn about the best kinds of tents for events, displays and craft development ideas then this site is for you.
  • Thrifty Little Mom – An extremely inspiring resource, this site shares useful tips and even a printable checklist.
  • Creative  Income – If you are like me, you will want to execute things just once. Follow the link to learn how to avoid mistakes at the craft fair.
  • Made Urban – This is one of my favourite reads. Display tricks to help you out.
  • Made Urban –  Specific to Jewelry display.

What are your thoughts on prepping for a craft show or similar events? What tips can you share?

Cee’s Which Way challenge

“Choosing a path means having to miss out on others.”—Paolo Coelho

May 2016. Christ Church, Barbados.

Life demands us to make choices on a daily basis, some are more important than others and can have far-reaching consequences. And even when trying to decide which choice might be best for us at any given moment, isn’t it a conspiracy of sorts that we will miss out on taking other paths and possibly enjoying the sights and scenes thereon?

A double-edged sword, huh?

Bliss-Developing Your Eye

/blis/ 1. complete happiness 2. Paradise; Heaven

In my mind I can easily visualize the story I want a piece of jewelry to share when I snap that photo. Images are emotive. They can bring a smile to your face, create doubt, stir up feelings of anger and sadness or they can heal. Being behind a camera gives me another voice.
